Start with how you will actually use it
Patio size is the decision people most often get wrong, and it is the hardest one to undo. A slab that looks generous on paper turns out to be tight once a table has chairs pulled out around it, and a grill needs more clearance than anyone expects until they are standing in front of one.
So we start by walking the yard and talking about what happens out there. Dining, a grill run, a fire pit, a hot tub, where the shade lands in the afternoon. Then we lay the slab out around that, including where the joints and edges fall, so the finished work looks deliberate rather than accidental.
Finishes are where patios get interesting. Broom for something clean and quiet, stamped slate or ashlar for texture, integral color or a stained border to tie it to the house. We will show you what those look like on real jobs, not just on a sample board.

How big should my patio be?
A dining set with the chairs pulled out needs roughly 12 by 12 just as a floor. Add a grill station or a seating area and you are closer to 16 by 20. We would rather walk the yard and lay it out around your furniture than guess from a square footage number.
What does stamped concrete cost compared to plain?
Stamping adds to the number. More material, more labor, and a sealer that needs occasional attention. How much depends on the pattern and whether you are coloring the whole slab or just a border. We will price both so you can compare them side by side.
Does stamped concrete need maintenance?
The sealer does. Plan on resealing every few years depending on sun exposure and traffic, which keeps the color from fading and keeps water out of the surface. A plain broom finish is close to maintenance-free by comparison.
Can you pour around an existing pool or patio cover?
Yes, and a lot of our work is exactly that. Pouring up against an existing pool shell or under a standing cover takes more forming and hand finishing than an open slab, and we price it that way instead of pretending it is the same job.
